Costs & Funding

What does home care actually cost?

Less than most people think. Depending on the care level, Germany's long-term care insurance covers most of the cost directly — you don't need to pay upfront. Medically prescribed services like wound care or medication are covered by health insurance – apart from a statutory co-payment. And if that isn't enough, the social welfare office can step in.

Long-term care insurance

🏦 Care Insurance (Pflegekasse)

Covers most of the care costs directly, depending on your care level — paid straight to us, with nothing for you to pay upfront.

Under SGB V

💊 Health Insurance

Medical treatment care prescribed by a doctor — such as wound care or medication administration — is covered by health insurance, apart from a statutory co-payment.

Under SGB XII

🏛️ Social Welfare Office (Sozialamt)

If long-term care insurance benefits and your own income aren't enough, the social welfare office can cover the remaining costs through its "Hilfe zur Pflege" (help with care) program. We'll support you with the application.

We handle it for you

Germany's care system feels like a jungle — even more so from abroad. We'll guide you through.

Applying for a care level, dealing with insurance funds, understanding contracts, filling out forms — in German, using terms that can be confusing even if you speak the language well. If you've only recently moved to Frankfurt, you may not even know a "Pflegekasse" exists, let alone how to deal with one. Many families feel left alone in this system. It doesn't have to be that way — and we've helped plenty of international families find their way through it.

1

Take a breath first

You don't need to figure everything out at once. The most important first step is an open conversation — with us, with your family, with your doctor.

2

Apply for a care level ("Pflegegrad")

The care level is the key to all benefits in the German system. We explain how it works from scratch and guide you through the entire process — free of charge.

3

Understand what insurance covers

Much of this is paid for by German long-term care insurance, health insurance or the social welfare office (Sozialamt). We show you clearly which benefits apply to your situation — in plain English, not bureaucratic German.

4

Build a plan together

We come to your home, look at the situation together and build an individual care plan with you. Transparent, human, no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know

The questions families ask us most often — answered clearly.

You apply informally with your long-term care insurance fund (linked to your health insurance provider). An assessor from the Medical Review Board will then visit you at home. We guide you through this entire process — free of charge. Just get in touch with us.
It depends on the care level: from care level 2 onwards, the long-term care insurance fund pays a fixed monthly amount for care provided by a home care service — the higher the care level, the higher the amount. In addition, everyone in need of care is entitled to a monthly relief amount ("Entlastungsbetrag"). Medically prescribed treatment care is covered by health insurance – apart from a statutory co-payment, from which many people are exempt. What this means for you specifically, we'll work out together in a free initial consultation.
In urgent cases, we can often start within 24 to 48 hours. Call us — together we'll find a quick solution and take care of the paperwork with your insurance fund.
Basic care covers everyday support — washing, dressing, eating — and is funded by long-term care insurance. Medical treatment care refers to medically prescribed measures like wound care or insulin administration, which health insurance covers.
